Youth and community

At Essence Theatre Productions, we believe theatre can be a powerful way for young people and communities to explore their stories and connect with others.

Our youth and community programs are collaborative and inclusive, supporting participants to develop creative skills, confidence and a sense of belonging through the process of making theatre together.

Led by playwright and theatre‑maker Alaine Beek, this work is shaped by care, curiosity and a deep respect for lived experience.

Say it Out Loud

Supported by Wyndham City Council this program focuses youth (aged 12-28) on developing a new script from concept to performance. It is a program that is fully collaborative in both writing and development. Facilitated by Alaine Beek, Wyndham youth will be inspired to explore their own diverse stories learning how to transform these stories into live performances. The themes are empathy, resilience and creative courage in trying anything and everything. All through the process participants learn many aspects of theatre craft – writing, acting, and production.

Alaine has a background in working with youth and from previous Say it Out Loud programs, two full plays have been created and produced – Testing Nothing and Vivaldi’s Park.
